Syngenta Phoenix 2

Civils Contractor for the Phoenix 2 Plinazolin extension to the Karates Intermediates Chemical Manufacturing Plant in Huddersfield.

Initial project was a cut and carve project in an operational chemical plant environment to facilitate the new production of an active ingredient called Plinazolin. Works involved the construction of 4No. Warehouses to house the new production line from material storage, system charging, bagging and finished product storage. All buildings were connected into the existing site surface water drainage using HDPE welded drainage and 6000m2 of concrete hard standing between the warehouses.

From the initial works, additional works were won more than doubling the contract size. These works involved demolition of existing plant sections and the refurbishing of an existing building. The refurbishment works involved stripping the building back to steel, reclad with composite sheets with internal block walls built and the floor levelled. New construction areas consisted of a 260m2 bunded concrete slab with plinths to mount new chiller units. A new pipe bridge connected to this from the existing building. It needed foundations constructing around existing pipework and electrical components which made the bolt boxes a challenge to set out.
